IDRISSI INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL: A SUCCESS STORY

You know the saying “with great power comes great responsibility”? That’s how we felt after receiving the Eco-Primary Education Award by PEKA Malaysia, graced by His Majesty the Sultan of Selangor.

With PEKA as our environmental partner, we teach our children sustainable living and develop a sustainable community at school. Our eco lessons include responsible consumption, where food wastage during lunchtime is weighed and observed by students and teachers. We went on nature trips where we replanted mangrove and did stream sampling.

We instill the values of good health each day through physical and outdoor activities, and through our little orchard of fruits and veggies. In fact, we had the winner of Masterchef Malaysia teaching our children healthy cooking!

Our infrastructure is constructed according to the Green Building Index, and provides eco-friendly features; a rainwater harvesting system, a vertical garden, and energy-saving properties. Sanitation wise, the water we flush down the toilet is from the rain. Having a wind turbine allows us to explore the possibilities of renewable energy. We offer good jobs to teachers, administrators, and school personnel for their economic growth, and we are careful with how we utilize our electricity as it’s part of our climate action.

Our creative students came up with new innovations during science exhibitions and eco conferences -- tiles made out of egg shells, paint colours made out of soil, and many more! Our girls and boys thrive together in science and technology, sports and martial arts. Gender equality is evident as they represented the school locally and globally, through various programs and competitions. We reduce inequalities by offering scholarships to top performers regardless of their background as we believe quality education is for everyone. Apart from the Cambridge International curriculum, IDRISSI is the first school to be authorized by Carnegie Mellon University USA for STEM Robotics program in Malaysia.

Our pond is a sanctuary to life below water such as koi, guppies, and tortoises; our humble farm is a shelter to life on land such as goats, chickens, ducks, and rabbits.

We also organized donation drives and charity campaigns for refugees and people in need, all for the goals of less hunger and less poverty.

We are IDRISSI International School. More than a homely school, we are a home of earth’s future changemakers.
